Wichita is one of the top pickleball spots in the nation, so what better way to bring people together to support a local cause?
Picklepalooza is an annual community and corporate pickleball tourney benefitting Senior Services of Wichita and The Alzheimer’s Association. These organizations provide vital services to seniors throughout the Wichita area, including Meals on Wheels.
Cassandra Bryan Design fielded two teams for the 2022 event, held Sept. 13-15 at Chicken N Pickle. Levi Mabe, Ryan Thorton, Brier Mermis and Kolby Newton represented cb{d} on the court, cheered on by several teammates.
“The entire team was on board for the vision,” said Digital Marketing Director Justine Hedge, who coordinated the team’s signature black and red uniforms. “We showed up ready to play and support these great organizations.”
Team cb{d} encourages other Wichita businesses to get involved—either on the court or supporting the players from the sidelines. A lack of previous pickleball experience is no barrier.
“It was a great experience,” said Mermis. “I didn’t know how to play pickleball, but the tournament staff was extremely kind, patient and knowledgeable. We had fun while supporting a great cause.”
“We might not have been the best team,” Newton added, “but we had the most fun by a long shot!”
Senior Services provides life-enriching recreation, health and nutrition, caregiver support and meaningful employment to thousands of seniors each year. The private non-profit organization offers new beginnings to people in their next stage of life—a life filled with adventure, happiness and opportunities!
The Alzheimer’s Association is a trusted source of information and support for dementia patients, family members and caregivers. The Central and Western Kansas Chapter serves Wichita with a wide range of programs and services.
